Manufacture of seamless steel pipe of sulfur free-cutting steel
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To mass produce a seamless steel pipe of sulfur free-cutting steel by the Mannesmann system, while preventing generation of cracks due to the piercing work, by welding an ordinary steel chip to the piercing side of the round billet of the sulfur free-cutting steel. CONSTITUTION: At manufacturing the seamless steel pipe of sulfur free-cutting steel by the Mannesmann system, a chip of ordinary steel, provided with 60 degrees X-groove, is welded to the tip of a round billet as a blank material on the side of starting the piercing work. Hereupon, a welding is performed so as to prevent anywhere in surface and interior of the jointed part from any defect. Next, a guide hole is bored in the outer end face of the chip welded to the round billet; then, the piercing work is applied all through the round billet by the conventional Mannesmann system. This pierced pipe blank is next stretch reduced and a seamless steel pipe of sulfur free-cutting steel is obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
