Abstract
Abstract NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R 1 and R 2 are 1W10C alkyl). EXAMPLE: Trans-4-propylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid trans-4'-propylcyclohexyl ester. USE: A compound useful as a component of a low-viscosity quick-response liquid crystal composition. PROCESS: The compound of formula I is prepared by (1) reacting a trans-4-alkylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid with thionyl chloride, and (2) reacting the resulting acid chloride of formula III with a trans-4-alkylcyclohexanol of formula IV in a solvent such as pyridine.
