Rare earth metal intermetallic compound sintered magnet having covered surface
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent the magnet surface from losing particles and damage by a method wherein the surface of a part or the whole of an intermetallic compound sintered magnet is covered with an organic resin or a metallic plating, and the contact with an oxidizing atomosphere is interrupted. CONSTITUTION:Sintered magnets of intermetallic compound such as RM5, R2M17 prepared through melting, casting, heat processing, powdering and sintering processes for one or more kinds of a metal M selected from Fe, Co, Ni, Mn and one or more kinds of rare earth metal R selected from a group such as Y, La, Ce and Sm is worked into a required shape and thereafter, a part or the whole surface of the subject is applied with an organic compound such as epoxy or is covered with a metal or alloy by means of a flame spraying vapor phase method. By performing in this way, a magnet is interrupted from the air and gases and a magnetic characteristic is improved, thereby, preventing the surface particles from losing.
