Forming method of protecting layer of fiber plate
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To make the formation of outside walls for protection easy without deforming peripheral multiple fibers by disposing the glass rods having nearly the same thermal properties and sectional shape as those of the multiple fibers without any spacing on the outside circumference of the bundle of the multiple fibers and pressing the same under heating. CONSTITUTION: The outer side of multiple fibers 10 piled parallel with a plurality is covered without any spacing with glass rods 11 having nearly the same thermal properties as those of the multiple fibers 10 and nearly the same sectional shape as that of said fibers. Next, while these are being heated up to their softening temperature by heaters 12, they are pressed from six sides by dies 13, so that they are compressively melt-stuck. As a reslult, the respective protecting glass rods 11 melt-stick to the multiple fibers 10 on the inner side and melt-stick to the protecting glass rods on both sides as well, thereby forming a protecting glass layer on the outside circumference of the multiple fibers. Here, the multiple fibers 10 and the protecting glass rods 11 have the same shape and therefore the deformation of the outer surface of the multiple fibers 10 is extremely small and their residual stress may be reduced as well.
