Polymerizable composition
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: A polymerizable composition which is low in volume shrinkage during polymerization, comprising an ethylenically unsaturated compound and an unsaturated bond-containing spiroorthoester. CONSTITUTION: A spiroorthoester of formula I, wherein n is 3, 4, or 5, is mixed with an ethylenically unsaturated compound such as acrylic acid, acrylonitrile or styrene. Said composition can be polymerized by use of radical polymerization means such as ultraviolet rays, heat, electron rays or microwaves, shows a low volume shrinkage during polymerization, and is useful for molding materials, adhesives or paints. The compound of formula I is prepared by dehydrohalogenation of a spiroorthoester of formula II, wherein X is Cl, Br or I. COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
