Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To stabilize image densities by measuring the moisture abosorption amount of sheets and controlling a high-voltage transformer for transfer charging or separation and destaticization according to the same. CONSTITUTION: The resistance value of the sheet held between an upper register roller 5 1 and a lower register roller 5 2 is measured. Now, when the measured resistance value of the sheet is lower than a standard permissible range, said measured value is fed back to a control system, and the applied voltage of a transfer charger 18 is increased and the amount of charge supply is increased according to the program having beforehand been set in the memory device in said control unit. Thereby, the decrease in the field strength between the sheet and photosensitive drum and the decrease in the charge on the sheet owing to the change in the resistance of the sheet are compensated and the decrease in the transfer efficiency of the toner images on the photoreceptor is thus prevented. Further, the applied voltage of a separating destaticizer 19 is also controlled, whereby the residual charge amount of the sheet after passage through the destaticizer 19 is decreased.
