Instrument for casting

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To prolong the service life of the titled instrument, make its manufacture easy and improve its corrosion resistance by forming a coating layer of BN on at least the portion to be put in contact with molten metal of Al or Al alloy. CONSTITUTION: This instrument for casting is obtained by coating colloidal BM of about 0.4W1μ mean particle size to a uniform thickness of about 50W150μ on at least the surface of an iron-base instrument in contact with the molten metal of Al or Al alloy. Methods such as, for example, coating and dipping, are used as the method of forming the BN layer. For example, crucibles for melting of Al alloy, pipes, stalks, ladles and spouts for movement of molten metal and thermocouple protecting pipes for measuring the temperature of molten metal may be enumerated as this instrument for casting.
