Rotating speed detector for compressor
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To protect moving equipment of a compressor by detecting each emergency shutdown of the compressor and hence promptly disengaging coupled conditions of a driving system by means of an electromagnetic sensor which is directly associated with a piston movement of a compressor. CONSTITUTION: Rotation of a driving shaft 3 and reciprocating motion of a piston 8 produce reciprocating motion of a groove 24 cut in a side wall of the piston 8. The groove 24 moves on a track where periodic motion is made. The density of a magnetic flux, formed between a magnet 20 and the piston 8, changes when the groove 24 faces the magnet 20. This change of the density generates voltage pulses in an electromagnetic sensor 18 responding to the rotating speed of the driving shaft 3. If a compressor should come to an emergency halt due to seizure of a sliding portion or damage of a part, the pulse is not generated. If a pulse detector detects the absence of pulses, therefore, the detector generates a "STOP POWER SUPPLY" signal, stops a driving input of the compressor and hence protects a driving system as well as its related equipment.
