Production of optical fiber blank material for infrared ray transmission
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain an optical fiber blank material which is not mixed with any impurity by generating nonisothermal plasma while supplying volatile silicon halide vapor and volatile chalcogen element halide vapor into a reacting tube. CONSTITUTION:While raw material gases of volatile silicon halide vapor, for example, silicon tetrachloride, volatile chalcogen element halide vapor, for example, disulfur dichloride, and inert gas and addition components are being supplied into a reacting tube made of glass, microwave electromagnetic field is applied to generate nonisothermal plasma, whereby a chalcogen glass film is formed. The raw material gases are fed steadily and are exhausted at a fixed rate. The reacting chamber is kept at about 1.0-5 atmospheric pressure. Microwaves are, for example, of 245GHz. These obviate the entry of the impurities in the atmospheric air and provide the effect that the optical fiber obtained by spinning this blank material under heating becomes the one of less optical transmission losses.
