Crucible for melting infrared-ray transmitting material
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To provide the titled crucible for obtaining an infrared-ray transmitting material with less loss by covering the inside of a quartz container with a layer of at least one kind of compound selected from a group of heat resistant compounds such as BN and Si3N4 to prevent the diffusion of impurities. CONSTITUTION:The titled crucible is obtd. by covering the inside of a quartz container with a layer of at least one kind of compound selected from a group of heat resistant compounds consisting of BN, Si3N4, TiN, SiC, TiC, B4C and TiB2. For example, the thin film is formed by heat depositing the compound at an appropriate temp. by a TVD method. This thin film has superior corrosion resistance to a molten infrared-ray transmitting material, prevents the diffusion of impurities from the crucible, and maintains the melt at high purity. This crucible is suitable for obtaining an infrared-ray transmitting material with less optical transmission loss.
