Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To attain high-density recording with simple structure while improving output characteristics by providing flank members of high magnetic permeability, separating from a magnetic tape, on upstream and downstream surface of magnetic poles differing in magnetic characteristics in a magnetic-tape running direction and by winding these members with a coil. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic layer 12b, forming magnetic pole 12 coming into slide contact with magnetic film 11b of magnetic tape 11, at the downstream side in the running direction of tape 11 is formed of a material of higher magnetic permeability than that of upstream-side magnetic layer 12a and the upstream and downstream- side surfaces of magnetic poles 12 are sandwiched between high-magnetic-permeability flank members 13 of relatively large thickness separating from magnetic film 11b. Further, members 13 are wound with coil 14. Exciting coil 14 forms vertical magnetic domains in magnetic layer 11b to attain vertical magnetizing recording, but nearly the whole of the vertical magnetic field is converged into the downstream-side edge in the tape-11 run direction, so that output wave characteristics will not have any dip. Therefore, high-density recording becomes possible.
