Abstract

Abstract NEW MATERIAL:A trihaloallyl derivative of formula I (X is Br or I; n is 1 or 2; R is alkyl, benzyl or phenyl). EXAMPLE: 3-Methoxycarbonylmethoxy-1,1,2-triodo-1-propene. USE: An antifungal and preservative agent useful to prevent the deterioration of various products such as the growth of fungi (e.g. those belonging to Penicillium genus, etc.) on industrial raw materials, deterioration of substrate, etc. It also prevents the damages of wood causd by wood destroying fungi, white rot fungi, etc. PROCESS: An ester of formula I is prepared by (1) reacting a propargyl derivative of formula II with 1mol of I 2 or Br 2 in the presence of ≥2mol equivalent of an alkali, (2) adding 1mol of I 2 to the monohalide of formula III obtained above to afford a carboxylic acid of formula III obtained above to afford a carboxylic acid of formula V as an intermediate, (3) converting the carboxylic acid to an acid chloride with SOCl 2 , and (4) contacting the product with ROH. When the amount of the alkali is 1mol equivalent, the trihalo drivative of formula I is obtained via a monohalide of formula IV. COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
