Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To perform both the measurement of light absorption and the measurement of fluorescence by a method wherein two light sources and two optical systems are provided, and a changing-over means for guiding the light from each of the light sources to each of the optical systems is provided. CONSTITUTION:The light emitted from a xenon lamp 9 is condensed, then enters an excitation- side spectroscope 11, where it is dispersed, then re-condensed by a lens 12, and incides into a flow cell 16 through a side surface 16a to excite a flowing specimen. The fluorescent from the specimen is taken out through an end face 21, condensed by a lens 14, passes through a fluorescent-side spectroscope 15 and incides into a photomultiplier 6, producing an output signal proportional to the intensity of the fluorescent emitted from the specimen. In cases where the measurement of fluorescence is not conducted, a shutter 17 is placed in a shutting position to shield the exciting light. On the other hand, in the case of measuring the light absorption, a heavy hydrogen lamp 1 is turned on, the light is condensed and then incides into the flow cell 16 through an end face 20, passes through the passage of the specimen, passes out through the end face 21, is condensed and incides into the fluorescence-side spectroscope 15. The light dispersed by the spectroscope 15 incides into the photomultiplier 6 to obtain an output signal proportional to the absorbance of the specimen.
