Embosser fitted with optical character reader

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To emboss the correct information on an embossing card by a method wherein the characters pre-printed on a card are read by a card reading unit, and a mechanism for retrieving the information corresponding to the characters is provided, in the embosser fitted with optical character reader. CONSTITUTION: In an information input unit 1, the information 3 corresponding to the characters 2a pre-printed on the card 2 is stored in a memory unit 4 together with the characters 2a. The card reading unit 7 consists of the optical character reader, which reads and distinguish the characters 2a on the card 2. Based on the characters 2a read by the card reading unit 7, an embossing unit 8 retrieves the information 3 corresponding to the characters 2a from the memory unit 4 and embosses the information 3 on the embossing card 5 together with the characters 2a. The serial operations are controlled by a control unit 9. Accordingly, the information 3 corresponding to the characters 2a on the card 2 is embossed on the embossing card 5 simply by setting the card 2 in the card reading unit 7.
