Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a high-efficiency vertical recording head with which the head is positioned only at the magnetic face side of the magnetic tape, by securing a larger cross section for one foot part of the U-shaped magnetic substance core than that of the other foot part and then providing the winding to the foot part having the smaller cross section. CONSTITUTION:The cross section of core foot part 8 of one side of the U-shaped magnetic head is set at least 10 times as large as the cross section of core foot part 6 of the other side. Then the winding is provided to part 6. Nonmagnetic insulated layer 11 is formed on the edge surface of the tape 3 side of core 8, or chamfer 12 is carried out. Thus the magnetic flux density is increased on core edge surface 7, and the necessary magnetromotive force is reduced at the recording time. At the same time, the vertical recording head magnetic field distribution is improved. In such way, a vertical recording magnetic head, which has a high reproduction sensitivity and is suited to the high density recording, can be obtained.
