Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To cool appropriately by a method wherein a capillary tube structure for replenishing the coolant is fitted around a heat source such as combustion chamber in order to cool the engine, and the surface area of the part where cooling is performed is changed. CONSTITUTION:A liquid coolant 9 is fed to and held at the entire outside wall of a combustion chamber and a cylinder by a capillary tube structure 3, and evaporates on receiving heat from the wall. The evaporated coolant passes through an evaporation chamber 2a and a passage 11 into a radiator 4, where it is cooled to condense by an electric fan 5, and the resulting liquid coolant is fed to the portion 1a where the capillary tube structure 3 is installed, to be reused for cooling. The portions where lubrication is required and the portions where thermal load is high are provided with a higher cooling capability by providing fins 12 and 12' at the desired portions of the outside walls of the cylinder and combustion chamber, whereas the wall surface of that portion of the combustion chamber corresponding to a quenching zone is provided with no fins so that a lower cooling effect is obtained there. Accordingly, appropriate cooling is achieved in accordance with each area.
