Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To enhance color developability, dispersibility, and stability, and further, storage stability of color images, by using a colorless photographic cyan color forming coupler having a specified releasable group at the position for coupling with the oxidized product of an aromatic primary amine developing agent. CONSTITUTION: A colorless photographic cyan color forming coupler represented by formula II or III having a releasable group represented by formula I at the position for coupling with the oxidized product of an aromatic primary amine developing agent is added to a photographic emulsion layer in the case of formula II or the like, or to the developing solution in the case of formula III. These couplers have high coupling reaction velocity and each form an superior color image as a 2 equivalent cyan forming coupler. In formula I, R is optionally substituted alkyl or alkylene of straight chain or branched chain; R 1 is alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, heterocyclic, or the like, all of them optionally substitutable, and R and R 1 may combine directly or through a combining group with each other and form a ring.
