Manufacture of oxidation catalyst
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a durable catalyst having a high performance at low temperatures, by a procedure in which an alumina-coated support is supported with a noble metal, impregnated with a lanthanide salt, dried, and baked to give an oxidation catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst support, e.g., alumina, cordierite, is coated with alumina, then supported with a noble metal, e.g., Pd, Pt, and further dipped in a 0.1-0.5g equivalent/liter aqueous solution of a salt of lanthanide, e.g., B, La. Then, the catalyst support so treated is dried and then baked at 800-1,000 deg.C to obtain an oxidation catalyst. The catalyst thus obtained, having excellent catalytic performance and long durability even at low temperatures, can be effectively used for cleaning exhaust gas of automobile, etc.
