Detection control unit for fed medium in printer

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To prevent malfunction of a detector by a filing hole, etc. of a print medium and further to perform identification of the print medium or decision of a print position by a method wherein a special control means is added to a print medium detector as a paper empty switch. CONSTITUTION: If a medium drive command a is output from a print control unit 16, a pulse motor 14 is operated and a medium is fed. If a detector 13 sends a medium empty signal b when the medium is fed, a counter 17 begins to count and when a signal b is sent notwithstanding that the count exceeds a specified value, a medium end signal C is given to the print control unit 16 and printing operation stops. When the signal b is extinguished before the count reaches a specified value, the count value is compared with the set values of comparators 18a, 18b, 18c and whether a hole detected by the detector is significant or not and the hole is large or small is identified and outputs f, g, h are given to the print control unit 16.
