Optical isolator
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To enable adjustment despite change in light wavelength and despite poor working accuracy by moving either of two Faraday effect elements provided with inclination on one surface thereby changing the optical path length of the light passing through the Faraday effect elements. CONSTITUTION: Faraday effect elements 8, 9 have a perpendicular face with respect to the optical path on one side and a slant face assuming an angle α with respect to the optical path on the other side. If the Faraday effect element 9 is moved by a distance (d) perpendicularly to the optical path, this results in that the length of the Faraday effect element 9 changed by Δl=d.tanα. Hence, when it becomes necessary to change the length of the Faraday effect element 9 by Δl in order to obtain the 45° amount of rotation of the polarizing plane with respect to the light of which the light wavelength to be used has been changed, all required is to move the effect element 9 by the distance (d). In this case, a polarizer 5 and an analyzer 7 are disposed before and behind the elements 8, 9 in such a manner that their polarization direction becomes 45°. COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
