Electrolyzer for polarization curve measurement
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To make it possible to measure a polarization curve nondestructively by electrically connecting an electrolyte, in contact with a measured body, to the electrolyte of a reference electrode by a solid-state eletrolyte. CONSTITUTION: In electrolyzer container 1, reference electrode 2, liquid-junction pipe 3, solid-state electrolyte 4, platinum-made counter electrode 5, electrolyte 6, packing 7, and electrolyte injection intake 8 are formed in a body. This electrolyzer is fixed by a jig to austenite system stainless steel pipe 9 as a test body and lead wire 10 is welded to steel pipe 9. Then, pipe 3 is filled with the electrolyte and a salt bridge is used as electrolyte 4, but since it is hard to fill pipe 3 with the electrolyte, pipe 3 is stuffed with fiber, is soaked in the electrolyte by capillarity to connect electrically electrolyte 6 and reference electrode 2 together. By using this electrolyzer, the polarization curve of piping can be found easily nondestructively and this can also be applied for appreciation of a change in sensitivity.
