Driving device for carbon ribbon

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To enhance the efficiency in consuming carbon ribbon as regards the width of the ribbon by regulating the transversal displacement of the ribbon in accordance with the character to be printed. CONSTITUTION: An electronic control circuit 2 stores the transversal shift amounts la, lb of the carbon ribbon 4 required for printing the characters and symbols corresponding respectively to keys 1a, 1b on a keyboard 1 and also stores longitudinal stepping amounts lc, ld. The circuit 2 has a drive amount change-over device 2a which is arranged in an equivalent manner so as to change over the displacement and the stepping amount of the ribbon 4 by referring to the stored contents in accordance with the keys 1a, 1b being operated. A printing device 3 has a carbon ribbon driving device 3a. The control circuit 2 feeds a printing signal to the printing device 3, whereby a printing head is driven to carry out a printing operation while using the ribbon efficiently.
