Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To facilitate the insertion of a blank sheet and to accurately determine the starting position of type printing, by detecting the end of an inserted type-printing blank sheet, and carrying a platen and a pinch roller in accordance with the detection, in a printer such as a serial printer. CONSTITUTION: A type-printing blank sheet 18a, having a predetermined length, is inserted into a second-sheet guide 4. When the front end of the blank sheet 18a reaches a detector 17, a platen 2 and a pinch roller 5 move along a direction apart from a type printing head 1 in accordance with the detection of the arrival. At the same time, a sheet feed roller 5 is rotated anticlockwise. The blank sheet 18a concurrently butts against the stopper part 14 of a guide 3, and settled in the position. The platen 2 and the pinch roller 8 is returned after a certain period by a timer cooperating with the detector 17. When the final end of the blank sheet 18a passes over the detector 17 and the begining position of type printing corresponds to a type printing part, the rotation of the sheet feed roller 5 is switched to clockwise.
