Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal compsn. which makes time division driving possible at a low voltage, consisting of the first liquid crystal (in which anisotropy of dielectric constant is negative), the second liquid crystal (in which said anisotropy is positive), and the third liquid crystal contg. a specified liquid crystal compd. exhibiting less temperature dependence of threshold voltage. CONSTITUTION: The first liquid crystal (A) (which contains at least one compd. of formula I wherein R 1 , R 2 are each straight-chain alkyl and in which anisotropy of dielectric constant is negative), the second liquid crystal (B) (which consists of at least one compd. of formula II, at least one compd. of formula III and at least one compd. of formula IV wherein R 3 , R 4 , R 5 are each straight-chain alkyl and in which anisotropy of dielectric constant is positive), and the third liquid crystal (C) (which contains at least one compd. of formula V wherein R 6 , R 7 are each straight-chain alkyl), are mixed together to obtain a nematic liquid crystal compsn. for an electric field effect type liquid crystal display apparatus which is applied watches, electronic calculators, etc. This liquid crystal compsn. makes time division driving possible at 3V or lower, exhibits excellent voltage margin, and further has excellent chemical stability, resistance to freeze at low temperature, etc. COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
