Desorption of polyvinyl alcohol polymer adsorbed on silica
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To perform the desorption of PVA polymers adsorbed on silica, by using an aqueous solution containing a specific concentration range of a specific water- soluble organic solvent, e.g., ethanol. CONSTITUTION: The desorption of PVA-based polymer containing 60molt% or more water-soluble polymer (PVA), for example, adsorbed in the form of an aqueous solution on silica, is performed using an aqueous solvent composed of an aqueous solution containing 1W35vol% organic solvent, e.g., ethanol, isopropanol, etc., at a temperature above 0°C. The aqueous solution containing PVA-based polymer is passed through a silica gel-packed column so as to cause the PVA-based polymer to be adsorbed on the silica gel, and then the said solvent for desorption is passed through the said column for desorption of the PVA-based polymer, whereby permitting the recovery of PVA-based polymers from PVA-based polymer-containing aqueous solutions.
