Preparation of beta-chloroalanine
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for drugs, agricultural chemicals, etc. in high purity and in high yield inexpensively with preventing the decomposition of the compound, by adding carbon dioxide to α- amino-β-chloropropionitrile, which acidified and hydrolyzed. CONSTITUTION: Carbon dioxide is previously added to α-amino-β-chloropropionitrile, which is acidified with a mineral acid, and hydrolyzed, to give the titled compound. Carbon dioxide in the form of carbon dioxide gas in an excess with the aminonitrile is added to an aqueous solution of the aminonitrile. An amount of the mineral acid is in a molar ratio to the aminonitrile 3W10 times and hydrolysis is carried out at 80W100°C under heating. In the operation, β-chloroalanine will not be colored.
