Continuous casting method
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of oxidation right after solidification of a cast ingot by providing a hollow chamber in the position continued to the outlet side of a mold, introducing a nonoxidative gas into this hollow chamber and lowering the temp. of the cast ingot in this chamber. CONSTITUTION: A hollow cylindrical part 9 consisting of a heat- and corrosion- resistant material such as quartz is disposed on the outlet side of a mold 2. If a non-oxidative gas such as argon gas is fed into the lead-in port 9c of the body 9, side gas is filled in the chamber 10 and also infilters into the gap between the inside wall surface of the mold 2 and the outside circumferential surface of the cast ingot 6. Hence, the cast ingot 6 solidified in the mold 2 is enclosed by the non-oxidative atmosphere right after the solidification, and its temp. gradually lowers in said non-oxidative atmosphere and only when it has lowered to the low temp. at which it does not oxidize despite exposure to the atmosphric air, it is exposed to the atmospheric air; consequently, the oxidation of the surface of the cast ingot 6 is effectively prevented.
