Molding and processing for reproduction of recovered crosslinked polyethylene
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To mold and process a recovered polyethylene having low flow properties in good flow state continuously for its reproduction, by blending the recovered polyethylene with a low-melting polyolefin and extruding the blend in a short retention time. CONSTITUTION: A recovered crosslinked polyethylene having low flow properties is blended with a low-melting polyolefin to give a blend which is extruded at low temperature and in shot retention time to form pellets. The mutual action between the crosslinking growth to the polyolefin and the sol part of the crosslinked polyethylene during heating in molding improves electrical properties, resistance to heat distortion, etc. EFFECT: The control of partial and nonuniform crosslinking by the adjustment of blending, heating, and retention time makes continuous processing possible while keeping flow properties.
