Production of cationic emulsion
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain title emulsion having excellent stability useful as fiber-treating agent by polymerizing vinyl monomer in the presence of a cationic polymer contg. quat. nitrogen atom and polymerizable quat. ammonium salt as a polymerizable component. CONSTITUTION: The desired cationic emulsion is produced by polymerizing vinyl monomer such as vinyl acetate or vinyl propionate in the presence of a cationic polymer contg. quat. nitrogen atom and, as at least one polymerizable component, polymerizable quat. ammonium salt having the formula (wherein R, R' are 1W 20C alkyl, R" is 1W20C alkyl, 6W15C radical contg. arom, or alicyclic gp. R'" is 2W6C aliph. hydrocarbon gp. contg. at least one ethylenic bond, X is chlorine or bromine) such as a polymer of (2-hydroxy-3-methacryloxypropyl)trimethylammonium chloride.
