Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To protect the ends of optical fibers from damages without degrading the transmission efficiency of light by interposing the elastic solid transparent body of the refractive index of the optical axis part higher than the refractive index of the periphery between both end faces of optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:An elastic solid transparent body 3 is interposed between the end faces of optical fibers 1, 1'. Hence, the end faces of the optical fibers are protected from damages by the elastic force of the elastic solid transparent boty 3. In addition, by setting the refractive index of the central part 3 of this elastic solid 3 at a value higher than the refractive index of the peripheral part 4, a waveguide structure may be given to this elastic solid transparent body and the transmission efficiency of light improved.
