Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To effect a smooth insertion of printing paper by adapting platen to form a gap between the platen and a printer head with a projection provided on the platen when the printer is not operated. CONSTITUTION: A projection 2-1 and a cam 2-2 consisting of an inclined side surface of the projection 2-1 are provided at that portion of a platen 2 which does not face printing paper. A chamber 3-1 is provided in that corner portion of a printer head retainer 3 which faces the platen 2 and projection 2-1. The printer head retainer 3 is slidingly reciprocatingly moved in directions A, B in a range C as a feed screw shaft 5 is forwardly and backwardly rotated, to carry out a printing operation. When the printer is in a preparatory stage, the printer head 1 is rested against the projection 2-1 via the cam 2-2. This allows a gap E between the printer head 1 and that portion of the platen 2 which is opposed to printing paper 7 to be widened so that the printing paper 7 can be inserted into the gap E smoothly.
