Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the polarizing film of good durability by using a resin film composed of the saponified resin of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, letting polarizing elements be adsorbed thereon then orienting the same. CONSTITUTION: The ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin of vinyl acetate content about 15 to 95mole% (preferably 35 to 85mole%) is saponified at about 60% or over (preferably 85 to 99.8%), after which this is filmed. Next, the above film is dipped in a solution of polarizing elements such as iodine, chelate compounds, dyes, etc. to allow the polarizing elements be adsorbed on the film, after which the film is oriented and is heat-dried in a tense state, thereby yielding the polarizing film. It is also equally well to affix a resin film of refractive index about 1.5 or over such as cellulose-base-, unoriented polyester-base-, polycarbonate-base films on the surface of the abovementioned polarizing film as a protecting layer.
