Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To extend the life of the ink ribon by interrupting the printing actions during the fixed period before and after the reversal of the ribbon. CONSTITUTION: While the output signal 5 is transmitted from a ribbon sensor, a printing unit driving circuit is controlled to halt the printing action. If necessary, the reception of the printing data 10 from the computer body may be suspended during the period. On the other hand, after delayed by a fixed time with a delay circuit 11 the output signal 5 is transmitted to a ribbon motor driving circuit 4 to invert the rotary direction of the ribbon driving motor. With such an arrangement, soon after the start of the opposite movement of the ribbon, the output signal 5 from the ribbon sensor is suspended again and at the same time, the printing action is resumed. Thus, it is possible to avoid a longer and continuous striking on the both end portions of the ink ribbon than the other portion thereby extending the life of the ribbon.
