Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: An aqueous poultice having improved anti-inflammatory effect free from skin rash actions, comprising a nonvolatile and odorless active constituent having an anti-inflammatory effect by transcutaneous adsorption. CONSTITUTION: A poultice comprising a nonvolatile, odorless, and non-irritating anti-inflammatory agent, e.g. a compound such as Indomethacin or Phenylbutazone, a natural substance, such as a horsechestnut extract, and a mixture of adrenal gland extract, heparinoid, and salicylic acid, as active constituents. The poultice comprising the conventional menthol or camphor is irritating the skin and causes contact dermatitis; however, this product does not irritate the skin. The side effects, e.g. ulcer, due to the internal use of the anti-inflammatory agent can be eliminated. The heat-resistant proparation permits the application to hot packs.
