Supercharged diesel engine

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To provide a diesel engine having a plurality of superchargers, in which arrangement is such that supercharging suited for operational condition of the engine is attained through selective use of said plurality of superchargers depending on the load of engine. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of superchargers 4, 5 are provided in the manner communicating with scavenging pipe 2 and exhaust pipe 3 and they are also communicated to a common auxiliary blower 6 via silencers 9, 10, respectively. In respective passages communicating these two superchargers 9, 10 to blower 6, there are provided changeover valves 7, 8. Further, control valves 11, 12 are provided in scavenging duct and exhaust duct communicated to one supercharger 5. Opening angles of changeover valves 7, 8 and control valves 11, 12 are all controlled by electromagnetic valve 14 and pressure switch 13 for detecting the back pressure in exhaust pipe 2. With such an arrangement, operation of the said supercharger 5 is stopped during low-load operation of engine, whereas both of the superchargers are kept in operation during high-load operation.
