Abstract

Abstract NEW MATERIAL:The title compound of formula I (R 1 , R 2 =H, alkyl, or aryl, or R 1 and R 2 may a group which form a heterocyclic ring together with the adjacent N atom; provided that α-carbon is S configuration). EXAMPLE: 3-(N-ethylcarbamoylthio)-2(S)-methylpropionic acid. USE: Analgesic and antiphlogistic agent. A synthetic intermediate of hypotensive agents having an excellent inhibitory activity to the angiotensin I converting enzyme. PROCESS: A compound of formula I is obtained by the reaction of a compound of formula II (Y=halogen) and a compound of formula III, followed by the optical resolution. Moreover, a hypotensive agent of formula V is obtained in high yield by the condensation of the compound of formula I and a compound of formula IV, followed by the removal of N-substituted carbamoyl group.
