Low hydrogen type covered arc welding electrode for low temperature steel
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: The arc welding electrode which comprises covering a carbon steel core wire with the covering agent containing the specific amounts of carbonates, metal fluorides, Si, Ti, Al, Mg and Ni and not containing Mn and is capable of providing weld metal of superior impact toughness in low temperature. CONSTITUTION: The covering material containing carbonates, e.g., CaCO 3 , BaCO 3 , etc. 25 to 55%, metal fluorides, e.g., CaF 2 12 to 35%, Si; 0.5 to 2.5%, Ti; 1.2 to 3.5%, either one or both of Al, Mg 0.3 to 5%, Ni; 14 to 22% and not containing Mn is covered on a carbon steel core wire to form the low hydrogen type covered arc welding rod for low temperature steels. The weld metal welded by using this welding rod sufficiently satisfies more than 2mm V-notch Charpy impact value (vE -101 ) 2.8kg.m at -101°C which is required for liquefied ethylene gas refrigerating storage tanks and has 5.8kg.m or over.
