Production of alkali resistant glass fiber suitable for fiber making

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title fiber with superior aging resistance and durability for reinforcing cement by treating ZrO 2 -contg. alkali resistant glass of a specified alkali solubility with a sizing agent contg. a restricted amt. of greige goods, polyalkylene glycol, etc. as solid components when the glass is spun into fiber. CONSTITUTION: When alkali resistant glass of an alkali solubility below 4% and a ZrO 2 content above 5, most suitably above 11.5 mol% is melt-spun into fiber, the glass is treated with a sizing agent contg. the following solid components: 25W70 wt% of greige goods made of vinyl copolymer contg. 5W70 mol% of a free COOH group-contg. vinyl cpd. of the formula; 25W70% of polyalkylene glycol such as polyethylene glycol of 200W20000 MW; (1W20% of a coupling agent of aminosilane type or the like;) 0.1W5% of an amino cpd. having two or more NH 2 groups; and below 10% of a smoothing softening agent such as paraffin wax.
