Photo switch

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the photo switch which is capable of switching circuit ON and OFF by forming the opposing end faces of optical fibers to sloped end faces and so moving the optical fibers that the spacing between the end faces become above or below the wavelength of light. CONSTITUTION:Opposing end faces of optical fibers 1 and 2 are formed to, e.g., 45 deg., to the axial line and are so provided as to permit controlling of the spacing d. If this spacing d is made above the wavelength of light, the light propagated from the A point of the fiber 1 to the B point direction totally reflects on the slide end face of the fiber 1 and is radiated to the C direction. If the spacing d is made below the wavelength of light, the light propagated from the A point to the B point direction of the fiber 1 propagates in the D point direction of the fiber 2. Hence, by moving the optical fibers 1, 2 in the axial line direction to make the spacing d more than the wavelength of light, the photo coupling is turned OFF and by making the spacing d below the wavelength of light, the photo coupling is turned ON.
