High speed optical branching circuit
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To make it possible to change the optical path in accordance with the existence of the optical modulation of a laser light source and to increase the speed of the changing speed by forming an optical fiber at one end with a filter, which allows only the non-modulated light of the laser beam to pass therethrough, and at the other end with a filter which blocks the same. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor laser 1 has its light modulated in response to switching signals 2. The light thus non-modulated or modulated is condensed by a lens 3 and is branched in two directions by a half-mirror 4 so that they enter optical fibers 5 and 6. The optical fiber 5 is formed at its one end with a filter 7, which allows only the non-modulated laser beam to pass therethrough. The other fiber 6 is formed at its one end with a filter 8 which has such characteristics as blocks the non-modulated laser beam. Since the optical path is changed in accordance with the existence of the optical modulation of the laser beam source, the changeing speed can be accomplished at a high level.
