Piston ring
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To provide a gas pressure ring which allows gas to flow back to a combustion chamber from a spacing below the ring even if it is closely contacted with the top surface of an annular groove formed in the outer periphery of a piston and which can inhibit heat transmission from the top surface thereof by constituting same such that it is provided with a plurality of radial grooves formed on the top thereof. CONSTITUTION:This pistion ring or gas pressure ring 3a is provided with a suitable number of radial grooves 6 formed at the top thereof, in use, even if the gas pressure ring 3a is closely contacted to the top surface of an annular groove 2a formed in the outer periphery of a piston, a spacing 4 below the ring 3a and a combustion chamber remains communicated each other by means of the grooves 6 so that gas in the lower spacing 4 flows back into the combustion chamber through the radial grooves 6. Pressure P2 in the lower spacing 4 is lowred thereby so that the gas pressure ring 3a is moved into close contact with the bottom surface of the annular groove 2a thereby to prevent leakage of gas into a crank chamber. Besides, there is little transmission of heat of the high-temperature piston from the top surface of the annular groove 2a, which thus prevents thermal deformation of the gas pressure ring 3a.
