Liquid crystal display panel for televisions
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To project high quality color televisions with a liquid crystal panel of high releability by forming inorganic thin-film color filters between the liquid crystal at the portions of intersection of matrix electrodes and transparent substrates. CONSTITUTION: TN type crystal 9 is installed so as to assume a twisted structure of nearly 90° between two sheets of transparent substrates 7 provided with transparent electrodes 8 in matrix form. Inorganic thin-film color filters 11 of red, blue and green are alternately formed in the row direction between the liquid crystal of the portions of intersection where the electrodes 8 overlap flatly and the electrodes 8. Each three filters of the red, blue and green at the matrix intersections form one picture element. A pair of polarizing plates 10 are provided on the outer side of the substrates 7, with their polarization directions being made nearly mutually parallel. When this liquid crystal display panel for television is lighted by white light or natural light from the outside and is observed in transmission type, the entire part is dark when no electric field is applied or the electric field is below the threshold. If it is desired to observe, e.g., red color, concerning each picture element, an electric field above the threshold value is applied to the liquid crystal of the red filter portions, then the red light transmits through each picture element COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
