Silica fiber for optical communication and production of the same
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To improve mode propagation characteristics and yet enable low loss to be substantially achieved by containing B and F according to required refrective indices in buffer part and the core part other than that on central axis. CONSTITUTION:Gas raw materials of SiCl4, BCl3, F2 from supply sources 11 thru 13 are mixed together with O2 in a mixing part 14, and are introduced into a quartz tube 15 which has been maintained at 10 to 20 Torr by a vacuum pump 18. The output of a high frequency power source 17 is applied by a coil form conducting tube 15 reciprocating at a constant speed. After the relative ratios of the supply gas raw materials are controlled programmatically and a glass layer is formed, collapse and spinning are accomplished. Thereby, the silica fiber for optical communication in which the portion of the central axis of the core part and clad part are made of qure silica glass and the defractive index of the core part other than that on the central axis decreases toward the buffer part is obtained.
