Multicore connecting end and method for optical fibers
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To improve reduction in price, massproductivity and connecting operation of a connector by connecting a number of grouped fiber elements as a whole with the use of a stepped base plate having a simple construction. CONSTITUTION:The size of stepped base plates 6 and 6' along the steps is made larger than that of stepped base plates 7 and 7' so that grouped optical fibers 1 having their ends shaped are fixed between the base plates 6 and 7 and so that the end faces are exposed to the front of the base plate 7, thus constituting a connecting end portion A. Completely likewise, another connecting end portion A' is constituted, and those end portions are arranged to face each other under the condition of upside down so that the base plates 6 and 6' are fixed at the positions, where the end faces of grouped wires 1 and 1' are connected. Thus, it is possible to effect the removable connection and to have the wires 1 and 1' accurately aligned. In those ways, the connecting end portions A and A' have so simple construction that they can be easily worked and that they can be produced at a low cost in high masspro ductivity. Moreover, it is possible to improve the connecting operations.
