Abstract

(57) [Abstract] [Purpose] To provide an internal combustion engine which is excellent in safety in a small space and can stably add ammonia as a reducing agent to exhaust gas. The internal combustion engine 1 is connected to a cylinder 4 operated by gas fuel, a cylinder 3 operated by liquid fuel, a first exhaust passage pipe 8 connected to the gas cylinder 4, and a liquid fuel cylinder 3. Second exhaust passage pipe 10, first exhaust passage pipe 8 and second The main exhaust passage 7 merges with the exhaust passage pipe 10. A three-way catalyst 11 is arranged in the first exhaust passage pipe, and a NOx reduction catalyst 14 is arranged in the main exhaust passage. The three-way catalyst 11 reacts with the exhaust gas G1 from the gas cylinder 4 to generate ammonia as a reducing agent, and the NOx reduction catalyst 14 receives the reducing agent and is discharged from the liquid fuel cylinder 3 into the exhaust gas. The harmful component NOx in G2 is reduced and purified.
