Abstract

(57) [Abstract] [Purpose] Series parallel compound electric vehicle (SPH V) enables battery state of charge (SOC) management in parallel hybrid vehicle (PHV) mode. [Constitution] When the SOC of the battery exceeds a predetermined value SU2 or SL2, the prohibition flag is turned on. When the prohibition flag is on, the vehicle is run in the series hybrid vehicle (SHV) mode. When the SOC of the battery returns to the range of SL1 to SU1, or when a predetermined time has elapsed after the prohibition flag was turned on, the prohibition flag is turned off. When the prohibition flag is off, the mode is determined according to the vehicle speed and the like. When the SOC of the battery goes out of the target range (SL2 to SU2), SOC management becomes possible.
