Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To provide a compact optical transmission reception module at a low cost by optically coupling an optical circuit, a light source and a light receiving device between both sides of a board and housing the board in a package. CONSTITUTION:A print wiring pattern is formed on one side of a board 2 and various components are mounted on the wiring pattern side 6. The components mounted on the wiring side 6 are an area lighting laser diode chip 7a as a light source 7, a photo diode chip 8a as a light receiving element 8, a driver IC chip 9a driving the light source 7 and a preamplifier IC chip 9b amplifying an electric signal from the light receiving element 8 being an electronic circuit 9. An optical circuit 10 is formed on the rear side of the bard 2. A Y-shaped optical branching device 11 is formed as the optical circuit 10. The optical branching device 11 has an output terminal 11a and input and output terminals 11a, and the input output terminals 11a are coupled optically with an optical fiber 3. The board 2 is fixed to a package 1 by applying laser welding to a metallic film 15 provided at four corners of the optical circuit side 14.
