Hand scanner type character reading device

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To attain good character recognition also to small characters by providing a character display means to display character picture signals after binarizing processing and variable magnification type optical means to make a picture input means image-form character pictures on a medium. CONSTITUTION:A character display 4 displays a binary picture outputted from a binarization processing circuit 3 and a character recognizing circuit 6 recognizes characters from the binary picture normarization-processed. That is, since image data inputted to an image sensor 1 are displayed by the character display means 4 after binaryzation processing 3, in the case of the small characters, character image information with sufficient resolusion can be obtained by changing the magnification of the optical means 2 so that the characters may be displayed fully within the display range of the character display means 4. Thus, good feature information can be obtained and character recognition is attained.
