Optical integrated circuit
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To effectively eliminate the stray light and to reduce its influence by forming a light absorption band between a light output means and a photodetecting element. CONSTITUTION:A stray light outputted from a semiconductor laser 16 advances in the direction as indicated with an arrow F, and is made incident on a light absorption band 30 first. That is, the stray light advances along an inclined part 38 of a waveguide layer 14, and goes into a flat part 40. In the flat part 40, the light goes into a substrate 10, as indicated with an arrow FA. In the substrate 10, the incident stray light is absorbed and an electron - hole pair is generated. These charges are recoupled after being diffused, and annihilated. In such a way, the stray light whose intensity drops remarkably gets out of the light absorption band 30 from an inclined part 42, and also, advances in the direction of a groove 28. Also, the stray light goes into a photodetector through this groove 28, as indicated with an arrow FB, but its intensity is reduced remarkably.
