Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To eliminate the need of a locking mechanism from an IC card reader/ writer by providing a plurality of contacts which are actuated by IC card inserting and extracting operations and are brought into contact with and separated from contacts of an IC card and bringing and separating the contacts into contact with and from the contacts of the IC card in preset order. CONSTITUTION:When an IC card 1 is manually advanced in the direction shown by the arrow A from the state shown by the solid lines. The end section 1b of the card 1 pushes the tail section 2b of a contact block 2 and turns the block counterclockwise against a spring 4. As a result, a plurality of contacts 2a come into contact with contacts 1a of the card 1 in preset order. Since the contacts are connected to a circuit through arms 2c and terminals 2d, the circuit comes into contact with the card 1 in the order of the contacts coming into contact with the contacts 1a. Accordingly, even when the IC card is extracted during IC card writing/reading operation, the data on the card are not destroyed. Therefore, the need of a locking mechanism can be eliminated from this IC card reader/writer.
